Are we safe from pandemics? Most likely not. Luckily for us, there are people out there to ensure that at least we are ready. One of them is Nathan Daniel Wolfe, a virologist dedicated to investigate how viral diseases are transmitted from animals to humans, so the next pandemic can be predicted. To coordinate efforts in the monitoring of future pandemics, he founded Global Viral Initiative, which is now split into Global Forecasting Viral, a non profit organization dedicated to microbial ecology, and Metabiota, a company dedicated to the surveillance of infectious diseases.
